A popular theme that was expressed in German celluloid was fairy tale characterization, usually from the Grimm's Brothers' stories. The woodcutter was a recurring figure who appeared in many Grimm's fairy tales, the most well-known being Hansel and Gretel.
Measuring 1 5/8" tall, including bale, the cutout of the woodcutter, hauling home his fuel, is a flat silhouette rendered in ivory-colored celluloid. Metal jump ring. Originally, this pendant was probably worn on a ribbon. Very good condition.
