Bronze plaque of famous candy maker Henry Heide--signed R.P. Golde SC[ulptor]. Golde, a German emigrant who came to this country in 1884 became a noted American sculptor. Inscribed on reverse "Commemorating the Fiftieth anniversary 1869-1919 Henry Heide incorporated New York." Henry Heide was the founder of the Henry Heide Candy company purchased by Hersheys in 1996. Many of the nostalgic and beloved candies of our past were made by this man Heide, also a German immigrant: Jujubes, Jujy Fruits, Red Hot Dollars, Mexican Hots, and Chocolate Babies. The Heide Company was founded in 1869. 5.6 inches in diameter, small hole on top for a loop. Very handsome plaque with great patina and tiny touches of verdigris. Back shows a few surface scratches.
